The Latest Bollywood Movie Trends For 2011

As Bollywood movies are becoming a more prominent part of popular culture, Western audiences are becoming more aware of the trends and gossip associated with Bollywood. The 2011 Bollywood movie calendar reveals several trends in Bollywood films that seem to mimic current Hollywood movie trends.

One overriding trend of the 2011 season for both Bollywood and Hollywood is sequels. Bollywood is banking on audiences to return to theaters to see continuations of some of their favorite films. Sequels are popular with audiences because they feature beloved characters, familiar story lines, and a predictable storytelling style. Bollywood will be releasing Dostana 2, Partner 2, and Most Wanted (a sequel to Wanted 2) in the 2011 season, among others.

Comedy is the most prevalent film genre coming out of Bollywood. More than twenty comedy films will be released in 2011. Romance, action and thrillers are also popular trends, cumulatively making up about thirty of the Bollywood films set to be released in 2011. Several low-budget, independent films are also projected to have the possibility of bringing in large audiences.

Some of the most popular actors and actresses return to the Bollywood screen in 2011, many of whom have roles in multiple films. The beautiful Katrina Kaif stars in two romance films, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,” and “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,” set to be released in July and September, respectively. Tusshar Kapoor stars in four highly-anticipated Bollywood films of 2011: “Shor in the City,”Run Bhola Run,” “The Dirty Picture” and “Love U . . . Mr. Kalakaar!” Another face audiences will be seeing a lot of is Ashkay Kumar, who stars in two movies and has a cameo in “Chalo Dilli.”

Although some Bollywood film trends parallel Hollywood, Bollywood’s unique brand of style and flair make them a standout in the film industry.
